VC Tasting: Castello Sonnino Blend

Castello Sonnino
Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Trebbiano, Malvasia del Chianti
2010
$15
Chianti, Italy

Wine Review: Tobacco nose, weak black tea, red fruit, somewhat diluted palate in the middle but nevertheless great acidity. Snappy in the end and lasting and fruit closer to the end.

My Review: On the nose, this wine had notable strawberry aromas diluted by the heavy tannin structure (possibly from oak) and also had hints of mold-ish aromas. On the palate, the heat and spice hit me like a freight train. Without a doubt, this wine was high in alcohol which easily dominated the entire tasting. I actually had to weight a couple minutes for the heat to subside so I could taste the final wine, which indicated how long the flavors last in the mouth.
